The music of plants-B-exchange mails

research / Thursday, January 25th, 2018

Careful, what follows is a technical discussion between “experiencers”. It is therefore dense and thick, but it may interest those who are working on research. Hence the presence of these exchanges here. They go back to the start of my experiments and relate the first episodes right up to the aftermath of the Grand Rex concert. You can clearly see the questions we may ask ourselves, and there are a few pearls scattered here and there about interactions with the Plants, their needs, their expectations, and so on. To be read, then, if you are, like us, hooked. 😉

23/09/15 – Alexandre

Right, to give you the technical information, I have added everything you asked me for to the keyboard. I have 3 seconds of emptiness before each word: In G#1 = thanks, A1 = yes, A#1 = Socrate (the dog), B1 = Rose (my eldest daughter, who does not live with us), C2 = Alexandre, C#2 = Galiléo, D2 = nothing, D#2 = Damanhur, E2 = Paris, F2 = Gaujacq (where the botanist Jean Thoby lives), F#2 = nothing, G2 =…, G#2 = Jean, A2 = Jérôme, A#2 = Hervé, B2 = Luc (Jean T’s research team), nothing between C3 and G#5, A5 = Daphné, A#5 = Timéo, B5 = Frédérique (Jean T’s family), C6 = Claire, C#6 = Chaussette (the cat of the house), D6 = Hélia, D#6 = Lina

So I have not changed the places of our names, or of the “yes” and the “thanks”. On the other hand I have got rid of the “no”, but I did all the recordings again in order to leave clearly more than 2 seconds (closer to 3 in fact) before pronouncing the first names. Of course, it is not in “one shot” mode, so that it has to keep the key held down to trigger the name.

It has already rediscovered the use of “thanks”, “yes”, “Claire”, “Hélia”, “Lina”, and it said “Frédérique” (around 20.30, which is just before the word “Claire” (B5 and C6), and which it said straight afterwards).
I have an extra word in the middle, but it has nothing to do with our story… if ever you see a note coming back abnormally, I will tell you what it is.

See you soon.

24/09/15 – Alexandre

And now the bamboo is starting to use the names… for the moment I think it is more a matter of exploring…
It started at 22.30 with Frédérique.
22.33 the 3 towns
22.34 Galiléo, Alexandre
then Damanhur again.
Its rhythm has completely changed. Slow, one sound after the other. It has just reached Luc, Hervé, Jérôme, Jean, then goes back through the towns and on as far as Galiléo, one note after another, as if it were getting to know the words hidden behind the notes.
My Rate setting is at the minimum, so it has a crazy speed under its feet. Yet here it is picking out the notes calmly, one after the other… (Here I stop writing and I help it climb into the high notes.)
It first worked from the middle downwards, then from the middle upwards with my help. And it has just stopped, after managing to say the first names at the top. I have a few minutes of the recording of its work. It is simply gripping. I am so happy to have been able to capture that! Play it to anyone and they will understand… Wow!!!!

The Arundinaria bamboo searching for the words

The Kentia had done the same thing.
On the other hand, this raises a question… although the Kentia was not plugged in, it was in the same room, and yet it seemed to me that I had to do the same work with the bamboo, even if I knew the stages better.
The bamboo was in our bedroom, that is, on the floor below. So it had never seen the Kentia work, nor clearly heard it. On the other hand, being in our bedroom, it must certainly have felt the stories going on in my head…
It is true that it did the Kentia’s work at high speed (this afternoon from 16.30 until 22.30, in discovery mode). With very fast sounds and a lot of modulation, then the first name being triggered and, with it, a slowing down. First it made the descent, then the phase you can hear, which was a little longer. A few minutes earlier I had played it the high notes to help it come over to that side. It replied immediately by climbing, but passed over the notes (as in the recording) without triggering anything. Then it slowed down while going over its climb again and again, until it triggered all the names at the top (not above Claire, where Chaussette, Hélia and Lina remain), then it stopped. Completely! As if it had completed its first stage. So I plugged the Kentia back in (what is its real name?) and it is in Olympic form. It is modulating at ten thousand an hour. It is incredible!!!!

My feedback on my experiences with the plants is this:

  1. 1) Plants are collective and not individual. We can eat lettuces, as long as the species exists, the entity of the variety exists. It all depends on our state of mind while doing it. They have foreseen this, it is part of their adaptation. A bit like hair, if you pull one out, nothing changes…
  2. 2) Plants can learn from us, and learn music (I have jazz played to a Tricyrtis during the botanical concerts), but that is not their aim, conforming to a form of ego that they do not have. It is just a demonstration that they agree to give for teaching purposes.
  3. 3) On the other hand, we have things to learn from the plants. If we are receptive, then we will learn fabulous things. The more receptive we are, the more sounds there are…
  4. 4) Plants deal only with the positive, they know the negative but do not use it. That is why, as long as we are learning sounds from the plant, there are some. If we want to “educate” it, that does not really interest it, it is already so learned…

In conclusion, and only if you are willing, I would like you to programme the following things with your plant, the names of the people who are here, plus the scientists who follow our work, which makes:
Frédérique, Jean, Daphné, Timéo
Léonie, Omaya, Jérôme (sound engineer), Hervé and Luc (the scientists).
Then the places: Gaujacq, Damanhur, Paris….
We are going to do the same here with the same software as you. We are going to plug in an incredible fern, Woodwardia orientalis.
In addition, I am going to get hold of the same plant species as you, a Kentia. We will be able to check information of Japanese and Californian origin about the supra-sensitivity of plants. That is to say that plants are one, and therefore interconnected. This should possibly mean that, the day we arrive at your house, it should recognise us straight away. Or your plant could indicate our names for different things.
One scientific fact is this: the plant has a mirror effect, so what you think is picked up by the plant, which gives it back as sound, and this in addition to its vibratory spectrum.
I have just this minute read in your mail that the Kentia has stopped.
For my part, the plants stop in the following cases:
– a new, non-musician person in the house
– stress or anger from someone in the house or from outside
– if we ask the plant to do too many things, like a video of the Germans playing music, or if we ask it to follow a rhythm for too long, if we force it to……it ends up slowing down to stage 0
– if the watering water contains chlorine or has too high a pH
– if the family is asleep
– if it considers that the action is not positive
– if we change its transcoding sound too often
– if the transcoding sound does not suit it
– root asphyxia, unsuitable growing conditions
– doubts, or questioning that is too intense on our part
– water stress in the leaves
Because of this, when we spray water on the foliage, the plant is pleased on the one hand, and it also transmits, through the mirror effect, the quality of the water.
Thank you for your very significant feedback.
Hoping to meet soon.

At my house, the Arundinaria is playing with a great Shakuhachi player (a CD) and I have not had any names for a long time. If you have the time and the desire, I think it has to be taught to use it, and shown that it moves you when it gets it right.
For my part, I have noticed several things. It seems to me that the plants are more or less there. Let me explain what I mean. Sometimes they play somewhere else. For other places, other spots, perhaps other plants. During these moments they do not react, or react little, to the interaction.
They are then on descending and ascending tetrachords. Sometimes they are really there and behave like children. They are keen to satisfy us. They connect to our emotions. So they are able to learn and reproduce codes that move us. Then they leave again and become “inaccessible”.
Plants are more or less with us. And it seems to me that the Arundinaria is busier than others with a communication elsewhere. There we are…

05/10/15 – Alexandre

The good thing when people come by is that they always have ideas we would never have thought of. This evening, after spending a moment one to one with the Arundinaria, my brother said to me: “And why don’t we try plugging one electrode to a foot and the other to an ear?”
Come on, let us be mad. Given our structure it certainly will not work, but I like the idea, and there we are, barefoot, with one electrode on an ear and the other on a foot. It does not work! We try in each hand… it does not work. So we attach it to the hair… it does not work! Since I do energy healing and have therefore worked a lot on my chi and my magnetism, he says to me… “go on, try sending chi, magnetism through your hands.” I do so, and there… it works! It starts to modulate. I connect myself to Christ (something I do during my healing sessions) and it modulates faster and faster, and over the four octaves. I open my heart and it is stronger still! Wow!
My wife tries, my brother too, but without success. One is too tired and the other has no experience in these areas (I mean training with breathing, visualisation… because everyone is magnetic. It is just a matter of belief and work).
So, once my brother had left, I told myself I had to offer you this. I plug in the recorder and get back to it. It comes even faster than the first time and I try to vary the signal. I try to slow my flow down in order to send longer, straighter signals… I cannot hear that it is working, I even have the impression that it is stopping. I start the concentration up again, the flow returns, I do the same thing, and again it stops. Except that, looking at the recording, it had not stopped, it had made sounds so long that I could no longer hear them. The recording I am sending you is cut short because it lasts more than five minutes. But here too, if we could also work on the human being, perhaps we could better understand what it is doing and what it passes through, no?!
In any case, I am as excited as a five-year-old who has just found a new way of using a toy… so I am sharing it.

11/10/15 – Alexandre

I am still moving forward.
I have created a module for the plant allowing it to change the sounds of its keyboard by itself, as well as to turn music on or off, and also to change the track on the playlist. I know that is a lot of information for it, but within 24 hours it is already managing to use it with varying success. And there are already some funny and puzzling stories. The choice, for example, of a percussive keyboard with drums from the Noh theatre on a track where a Noh piece was being played… Music choices during my meditation that it has not used outside that moment. To be continued….
As for what you say about bamboos and ferns, if I understand the point about age and, with it, the ability of ferns to produce more sounds, I do not understand the rest. You talk about velocity, but velocity is fixed on our device, it depends on a potentiometer. And when you say more sounds, more depth… What do you mean? That they play a lot of notes… That their tempo is fast? I would like more details…
The same goes for your team testing the device on humans. Because in my few experiments, if I produce the resistance that lets the device produce MIDI messages, I have no control over it. Whether by visualisation, thought, spoken commands… So I am curious to know a little more about their work.
When you have five minutes, of course.
Ah! By the way… the Arundinaria will be taking part in the 24 hours of meditation at the Grand Rex. If you have any advice on how best to prepare it for this one-hour concert that it will have to give in front of 2700 people, in the middle of a very busy programme, I will take it.
See you soon.

16/10/15 – Alexandre

It is wonderful! That is it, it is plugged in. First point, it is already taking ownership of the keyboard… It is able to change keyboard and to turn the music on or off. Yet in the hour it has been connected with its new keyboard, it has stayed on it and is already starting to say beautiful things… “The sick earth”. “Draw water”. Even if for now it is too early to talk about messages. But I have a strong feeling that it will very quickly use it with great mastery. This Arundinaria is entirely suited to it. It loves long tones and always moves forward very meticulously.
The keyboard installed for now…

20/10/15 – Félicie (musicologist) on a study of a recording of the Arundinaria

Hello everyone,
I finally had the time to look into the Arundinaria…
Once again I did an analysis based on note pitches. I noticed that at watering time, the Arundinaria varies between tones and semitones, rising very gradually towards the high notes. It may be a silly thought, but I would interpret this scale of notes a bit like a “gauge” filling up with water. The low notes being the bottom of the gauge and the high notes the top of the gauge.
Then comes the moment when you put music on for it.
What I notice is the regularity of its notes, (and what you cannot see in my analysis, its search for rhythm). The Arundinaria systematically rises into the high notes chromatically, and comes back down by tone, within a very narrow scale of notes.
Finally, at 11.30, when there is no more music, the Arundinaria carries on in this mode, not once does it change its way of doing things. What is amazing is that at 1.30 in the morning it was rather in the high notes, and that at 11.30, so 10 hours later, it had come down almost an octave. So I am still wondering whether the water does not have an influence on its playing…
It would be great, Alex, if you could do the same kind of thing again with this same plant, then with another one, so that we can compare various examples.
Love,

REPLY 20/10/15 – Alexandre

Thank you Félicie,
I think several factors have to be taken into account. The device measures the difference in the plant’s resistance. So when you come and fill it with water, I think there is also an electrical reaction that is independent of the plant. Systematically (to this day), at watering time it goes down to the bottom of its keyboard. After that its reaction differs. Either it climbs back up to the top, as is the case here, or it sets off again from the centre and goes back down or back up, but over a smaller range.

What is interesting is that it reacts like this on contact with certain humans.

A kind of greeting. Does that mean that certain humans disturb the electrical signal, or that it bubbles with joy as we come near? I do not know!

On the word keyboard, what mostly comes out is “earth, sick”, “cold, light, sun”, “animals, plants, humans, deva”, “water, music”.

It does not seem to want to complicate its sentences by reaching for the “we”, the “you”, and so on.

With this keyboard, it stays very central on the keyboard. So much so that I am worried about its concert, because it has changed the way it plays. And I remind you that it will be playing in front of 2700 people in two weeks. So I have given it back the possibility of changing keyboard and of triggering the music. But it stays on the word keyboard a great deal. I am attaching three motifs from while it is on this keyboard (it takes three seconds to trigger a word. One less than on the name keyboard).

02/11/2015 – Alexandre (back from the concert)

All this information is wonderful…
It makes me happy to see that in the scores you can read their “progression”.
I have not given much news lately, simply because I have not had any significant experiences. The word keyboard works well, although here too, it does not use it as I would have imagined. That is to say that they do not use the ability to build subject, verb, object sentences. It is always sequences of words. What surprises me (compared with what Jean said about the positivity of plants) is that “sick” comes out very often. “Earth” “sick”. Then comes: “help, contact, deva, humans, plants, animals, minerals”, then “sun, light, water” and finally “cure, write, draw, music”, sometimes, particularly when Galiléo pays attention to it, waters it or gives it kisses, “joy, love”. But as in music, it does not know how to use a single word in one area, then another single word in another distant area of the keyboard. In any case, if it does so sometimes, it is never clear. It will use groups of words that are close together and, in doing so, bring out two or three words from a group of six or seven, by the fact that it repeats them more regularly. Also, while you clearly feel that when we are in a listening posture the meaning of what it says is clearer, when we are not listening and it carries on alone, it goes on using the words.

It takes time…. It leaves me perplexed. All the more so as I have just come out of a very unsettling experience regarding their learning…

As you know, yesterday was the concert. There were not 2700 of them because it took place at 6.30 in the morning, but between those present and those present by streaming we were around 1000 people.
Following your feedback, I got two plants working, the bamboo and the fern.

But only on that last day, the day before. The fern had not been plugged in for more than ten days. From its way of modulating, I thought it would not go with the meditation. It is on fast rhythms the whole time. Whereas the bamboo handles very long notes very well. The sound keyboards I created work very well with the bamboo, in fact, because they are mostly pads, whereas when the fern modulates it becomes cacophonous. But I did have to take a second plant, in case the bamboo stayed silent. (You should know that for fifteen days it has not stopped for a second. Unless, while we are asleep, it stops and starts again before the first of us gets up. But not a moment’s lapse, nor any silence, in more than fifteen days.)

So, to rig up a keyboard for the fern in case the bamboo does not modulate, I plug it in. And there… it is the bamboo. So much so that I wonder whether I have not plugged the bamboo back in instead of the fern (I have two sets of electrodes, so I do not need to undo the plants’ electrodes… I just switch from the mini jack of one to the mini jack of the other), but no, it really is the fern that is plugged in! It plays exactly like the bamboo! Long tones, and so on. The same style of note choices. Except on the word keyboard, where it does not trigger as many words as the bamboo, going just fast enough not to trigger them. Wow. And yet it has not been plugged in for a long time.

So it has completely adopted the bamboo’s behaviour by being beside it. Perfect. I have two plants that will be able to use the same set and that can stand in for each other during the concert, just in case.

Of course, just before playing yesterday morning, the bamboo, after modulating beautifully in the wings, goes quiet. Oops, I have time to plug in the fern before going on stage, and to check that it reproduces the same phenomenon as the afternoon before. Yes, it works.

It gave a magnificent concert. It spoke. We were in real symbiosis, it was wonderful (but that is another story, and as soon as the link works so that the Le Chant des Plantes (the song of the plants) segment can be watched again, I will send you an email with the information).

Back home, I plug the bamboo back in and it modulates perfectly, then stops a few hours later. So I put the fern back in its place and there, surprise, it plays as it did before. Very fast, not suited at all to the sounds. That is to say that it played along for as long as it took to prepare and deliver the concert, but that since then it has gone back to its “inexperienced” status?!

So, in an instant, if need be, it knows. Then the next instant either it no longer knows, or it is telling us something I do not understand for the moment. Because its playing as it stands is hard to listen to, it is so packed. Inevitably, it feels that. But it does not change. Nor does it stop. And for 24 hours, as the circumstances required, it perfectly adopted the behaviour of another. Knowing well before me that it would be the one to play.

There we are.

13/11/2015 – Alexandre

A simple question for Jean.
The Dryopteris Palmat, after coming back from the concert, went back to its way of playing… too fast for my ears. Then two days later, that is on the Wednesday, it found again the calm and the phrasing in the bamboo’s style that I love so much. And it kept on progressing. More and more musical.
Then, on the Tuesday, some shaman friends came, offered it tobacco and held a ceremony with it, and it went back to its super fast phrases… Since then it has not come down. And all the interactions I used to have with it (when I got up, it would play me a superb phrase, always the same one), it no longer does. As if it were not in our immediate space.
So I have plugged the bamboo back in quite a lot, and it is still in the same vein, but the fern is not coming back… It is well, but it is no longer with me. Strange…
Any ideas?

16/11/15 – Alexandre

No contact possible! For 15 days, the fern reacted every time I came and went. It had entered a musical phase that was very pleasant to listen to. So much sharing! The first names, the word keyboard, and so on. Since Tuesday it is unreachable! It plays very fast phrases, not pleasant to listen to, does not react to any interaction… as if it were elsewhere, far away.

REPLY 16/11/15 – Jean

2 ideas on this subject:
1°) I went through a similar period, until I realised that I wanted certain sounds to please myself, which is a form of ego. Plants deal with the positive, the ego is not positive, so it will not go and flatter it. By becoming fully receptive again, the sounds came back………… (I do not know whether this applies to you…….it is just a sharing of experience….)
2°) I also noticed that, listening before a storm, the sounds became unpleasant to our ears. Very high-pitched…..and blocked……a form of stress existed through the presence of the storm (110 km/h).
3°) Another experience: with angry people, or people in total doubt, even arrogant, the plant goes off into the high notes, then stops in the low notes and then nothing…….
4°) The supra-sensitivity of the plant picks up the overall environment, and gives back the vibrations it picks up. If the vibrations it gets are unpleasant, then it gives them back.
Either it comes from you, if you are dwelling on the events, in a way it is the background of your thoughts that you hear.
Another possibility: there are so many people who feel bad about the events that this is what you are hearing.
As events are in a vibratory state before they are in the concrete, the plant picks that up too, and that is what you have been hearing since Tuesday…..
Hence the importance of recordings with a precise date, so that, retrospectively and before long, we can analyse….
There we are……..

Epilogue,

It turns out that the last episode, where the plants went silent, corresponds exactly to the ten days or so before the November 2015 attacks. We are in November 2016 and the Arundinaria is modulating beside me without any problem. It is true that deciduous plants go quiet when the leaves start to turn yellow, just before they fall. But neither the fern nor the bamboo is concerned by that. So… what happened? Will I have the answer one day? I do not know. At the moment I am trying to see whether we could not build a less intrusive device, to improve the quality of our conversations. So I will talk to you soon about the other modules that make it possible to work with the activity of plants (electrical, from the resistivity of the sap like the U1, or as in my dreams, though unfortunately not yet in place, with the techniques of Mr Hans Otto König for TCI, whose book I recommend to you: New discoveries on the Hereafter.)
